Turning to Autoflower for the 2021 Season

We initially became interested in Autoflower options when we decided it is in our best interest to eliminate our full term crop and create a shorter season. The fires of 2020 destroyed some of our crops, and are always a huge source of stress every season. This past year, the fire line was just 21 miles from Casa Humboldt.

Our team decided that we need to be able to produce our 2021 projected goals with the first run of the season, from May to July, before fire season gets crazy here. Going with Autoflower strains will enable us to achieve this goal.

To learn more about our autoflower options, our first calls were to Dan Hendrx, owner of HENDRX Genetics, and Nat Pennington, owner of Humboldt Seed Company, both world-renowned experts in cannabis genetics.

After an exhaustive discussion and analysis, we settled into feeling very positive about this choice. We are very excited to work with Dan, Nat and their teams to cultivate these exciting genetics at our terroir.

“It appears Autoflowers may be the wave of the future, eliminating light dep completely,” according to Nat Pennington of Humboldt Seed Company.

We are very excited to begin to implement and understand autoflower genetics and cultivation methods at Casa Humboldt. Autoflowers do not require light cycles and apparently require fewer nutrients and little water to effectively mature to flower. We hope it will eliminate much of the labor intensive nature of light dep crops, while still providing rich diversity of terpenes and cannabinoid testing at above 20 percent THC.

We will report more on the progress analyses of our Autoflower strains as we cultivate and harvest this season, but we move forward with great confidence, knowing that we are working closely with and sourcing from some of the best breeders in the industry.
