Spring 2021 Farm Update
At Casa Humboldt, we are looking forward to the start of another amazing season at our Southern Humboldt terrior. The core of our mission is — and has always been — refining the craft of limited production, sustainable agriculture achieved solely through biodynamic methodologies.
Our off-the-grid farm has limited resources, which leads to intense terpene diversity and concentration that is often up to 20 milligrams per gram. We water and apply nutrients minimally, thereby growing heartier plants with richer flavor and more potency. For the first time ever, our rain catchment tanks were full by February 1st, so that’s a huge relief! Still, we are cautious with our water usage, and our plants are healthier for it.
On the farm management side, we are welcoming a new Director of Agriculture Tulio Guarnieri, and we have assembled a fine team to support his depth and breadth of knowledge. Tulio comes with a decade of cannabis cultivation experience in SoHum. We welcome Tulio and are pleased to embrace him as part of our Casa Humboldt family.
As for 2021 strain selection, our team decided that we need to be able to produce our 2021 projected goals with the first run of the season, from May to July, before fire season gets out of hand here, as it usually does. Going with Autoflower strains will enable us to achieve this goal.
We initially became interested in Autoflower options when we decided it is in our best interest to eliminate our full term crop and create a shorter season. The fires of 2020 destroyed some of our crops, and are always a huge source of stress every season. This past year, the fire line was just 21 miles from Casa Humboldt.
To learn more about our autoflower options, our first calls were to Dan Hendrx, owner of HENDRX Genetics, and Nat Pennington, owner of Humboldt Seed Company, both world-renowned experts in cannabis genetics. After an exhaustive discussion and analysis, we settled into feeling very positive about this choice. We are very excited to work with Dan, Nat and their teams to cultivate these exciting genetics at our terroir.
Our 2021 Strain Menu includes Mother’s Milk and Gelonade from HENDRX -- both high in THC with diverse terpene profiles, Papaya Punch from Headwaters, and Fire OG and Sour Apple from the Humboldt Seed Company.
Stay tuned for more information on these strains on our blog and on IG.
Wishing you the best this spring.
With love,
The Casa Humboldt Team
